Educational project in Gegong, Tibet
Danakosha Aid has established an educational project to support the people of Gegong village. The project has been started together with Gegong monastery, with the goal of maintaining the local culture and increasing community's well-being.
Gegong village is situated in Dzachuka, an area of of Northern Sichuan province in the Tibetan area of Kham. The people living in Gegong area are nomads. They live in harsh conditions and often lack educational and health facilities.
Children of Dzachuka
Since 2008, Danakosha Aid has been searching for different ways to help the nomad community. As requested by the local people themselves, Danakosha Aid has decided to help the community by building an educational center. It will serve as a place for educational and cultural activities for both nomad children and their parents.
In the beginning, educational center will serve over 60 children. They will be able to study writing and reading, among other subjects. Teaching will be given in the children's mother tongue, Tibetan, and according to the local cultural customs. Over time the amount of students will be increased. The building will also serve as a student dormitory, an adult education center and as a place for visiting health worker and community meetings.
