The Great Vidyadhara Shri Singha
Shri Singha
To the householder Geden Zangpo and his wife Nangsal Denma a son was born. From the age of fifteen, under the great master Haribhala and others, he studied grammar and logic and so forth, becoming very learned in the five ordinary sciences.
While he was going on the road to the city of Sarden or Suvarnadvipa, the Noble Chenrezig or Avalokiteshvara appeared, and prophesied:
Oh, Fortunate one, if you really want to attain the result in one
lifetime,
Go to the great Sitavana or Cool Grove charnel
ground.
Saying this he disappeared.
Then, in order to swiftly realize the result of the secret mantra, Shri Simha thought he should listen and reflect on the meaning of the outer and inner tantras for seven years. In the east, on the five-pointed mountain of Wu-tai Shan, he studied thoroughly all the pith instructions, transmissions and tantras of the outer and inner mantra texts, under the great master Bhelakirti. While he resided there, the Great Compassionate One once again appeared and repeated his former prophesy before disappearing.
Then, through the aid of miraculous powers, traveling nine days and nights, Shri Simh arrived at Sitavana charnel ground in India where he met the great master Garab Dorje. Prostrating and bowing down at his feet, he requested him to accept him as his disciple and the great master taught him. Garab Dorje gave him the transmission and pith instruction of the Tantra of the Supreme Drop as well as the complete empowerment and instructions. Through practicing these, Shri Simha attained the body of light similar to a water moon and supreme siddhis.
Later at the charnel ground of the island of Sosa or Susadvipa, he met the great knowledge holder Jampal Shesnyen and serving him, received various pith instructions and correctly practicing them, the lama's and the disciple's mind became one.
Then the great vidyadhara Shri Simha went to the great charnel ground of Tsup Gyur Tsal or Forest where khandromas or dakinis had gathered. Having tamed them through manifold deeds he taught them the Dharma.
While residing there, the great master of Orgyen, Guru Padmasambhava, in accordance with Vajrayogini's prophecy, came by miraculous means to the great Tsup Gyur Tsal charnel ground and listened to all the sections of the Sems-, Long- and Mengagde of the Dzogchen tantras, equal in expanse only to the sky.
